History

The Luther Bowl has a long and storied history. Beginning in 1965, students from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia organized an annual football game. Throughout the early years, the competition was fierce, but limited to students at Gettysburg and Philadelphia.

In the last decade, the Luther Bowl has been opened to new participants, including teams from as far away as Chicago and California. This year’s event will be the largest ever, featuring eight teams playing sixteen games over the course of one day.

This year’s winner will take home the coveted Book of Concord, the traditional Luther Bowl Trophy. Inside the cover, all the past winning teams have left their mark.
